You're often asked this question when buying items, here's the difference...
Every time you use your debit card, you’re normally asked to enter a PIN and that money is taken out of your checking account.
You’ll notice ours has a Visa symbol on it under the word debit. This Visa symbol means you can use it as a credit card for places that don’t accept debit cards or for a more secure transaction by signing the receipt instead of entering your PIN. Even though you’ve used it as a credit card, the money will still be taken directly out of your checking account.
Debit cards can also be used at ATMs to get cash, but watch out for ATM fees (don’t worry, the ATM will ask you to accept this fee before you receive your cash). You can avoid ATM fees by using one of our ATMs or finding one in our Co-Op Network – check out our ATM locators. We also have checking accounts that will refund your ATM fees: Rewards Checking and FASTtunes Checking.

When you use a credit card to buy something, you are borrowing that money. That means you can pay it back later. Your credit report tracks every time you buy something with borrowed money (using a credit card or taking a loan) and pay it back. The more times you do it, the better your credit score will be because you’ve shown when you borrow money, you pay it back. If you don't pay it all back when it is due (usually within 25 days) then you have to pay interest, which means you will owe more than you originally spent. Interest can add up, and so can credit card debt. If you don’t make your payments at all, this will show on your credit report too and will drop your credit score.
This type of card is for people just starting out or trying to build their credit. You receive a credit card with a borrowing limit matching an amount we hold in your account. This way, unlike a prepaid card, it still reflects on your credit report. If you get into trouble and can’t pay it back, we can use the money already on hold in your account.

Don't have a FAST Visa?
Below are a few FAQ's concerning the new FAST Visa chip card.
If you order or reorder a debit or credit card now, it will arrive with the chip. For those members who do not plan to reorder, we will issue your chip card based on an accelerated re-issue. This means your chip card will be sent to you according to the month of expiration on your current card.
If your debit or credit card is currently set to expire in 08/2018 you will receive your new chip card in 08/2016. If your debit or credit card is currently set to expire in 02/2018 you will receive your new chip card in 02/2017.
Your old debit/credit card will automatically stop working no matter the expiration date after your first purchase with the new card. When your new chip card is active, we encourage you to cut up your old debit or credit card for your security. You can also bring it to any FAST branch and we will shred your old card as a benefit to you.
The new chip card makes each transaction safer and more secure. Each time your new chip debit or credit card is used at a chip-terminal, a unique one-time code is generated that is used to approve the transaction. This feature makes it virtually impossible to duplicate counterfeit cards. The chip also helps to secure your personal information, with the chip only generating the unqiue code and not sending any personal data to the retailer.
